Katawa congregation in Mzuzu launches Strategic Plan

During the Sunday service of worship, Katawa congregation launched its strategic plan for 2014 to 2019. The service was led by Rev. Dr. O.P. Mazunda, former Synod General Secretary. The service was attended by representatives from Synod, as well as the congregations in Mzuzu presbytery.

The Strategic Plan was developed during a number of consultative meetings with involvement of all vestries, committees and guilds.

The plan identifies 4 strategic priorities:

  1. Spiritual Growth, Evangelism and Discipleship
Under this priority, the congregation will work on intensifying and enhancing evangelism, bible study, worship, pastoral care, music, and discipleship through the guilds. Through this the congregation hopes to grow from 1,250 members to 2,000 members by 2019.
  2. Development
Under this priority, the congregation will work on improving its financial base by starting profitable income generating activities. Profits will be used to fund running cost of the church but also to improve and expand the infrastructure of the church
  3. Governance
Under this priority, the congregation will in particular work on accountability and transparency. This will be reflected in clear terms of reference for all committees as well as introduction of a new financial reporting system.
  4. Capacity Building & Training
Under this priority, the congregation will make sure it has sufficient qualified staff to carry out its ministry. It will also introduce a systematic programme for training its lay leaders and the youth.
