About Us

LISAP stands for Livingstonia Synod Aids Programme. It is a department within the Synod of Livingstonia CCAP and was established in 1994.

For the past 18 years, LISAP has worked with 142 (71%) of the 200 CCAP congregations and 24 government rural health centres, 5 district hospitals and all three Synod mission hospitals in all the districts in the Northern region except Likoma. LISAP has also worked with CBOs and other FBOs to facilitate the establishment and supervision of community based groups which are run by volunteers to ensure ownership, effectiveness and sustainability.

LISAP has established HIV & AIDS consortia of different churches within its catchment area, this  consortium approach was started in 2008 to be able to reach out to all people within its catchment area. In the consortium approach, LISAP mobilises all churches (not only Presbyterian) in a particular community where HIV & AIDS activities are implemented. This approach has united churches to one cause which HIV is setting aside their doctrinal differences.

LISAP has facilitated HIV and AIDS, gender and human rights activities in these congregations in the Synod. These are distributed across 21 of the 25 presbyteries. LISAP also implements high impact projects in Karonga, Mzimba and Nkhata Bay which include girls’ and boys’ empowerment, Improving parent and child outcomes (IMPACT) and community empowerment for sustaining children livelihood respectively. These are called high impact responses because of their small target while delivering huge health outcomes.
